Wellbeing is such an “It” word nowadays. We pay more attention to what we eat and how we move our bodies to keep fit. We understand the significant impact of diet and physical exercise on health. We find ways to prolong youth and extend longevity. Ultimately, it all comes down to being happy and enjoying life to the fullest. Achieving wellbeing is important not just biologically but mentally and emotionally as well.

The mind, body and spirit alignment represent a state of holistic wellbeing. If any of the three elements is not in harmony, the music would go out of tune as in a symphony orchestra. As each part has its own role to play, we must ensure the same effort and equal resources are being allocated to upkeep our cognitive, physiological, and psychological functions altogether .

Regardless of the interdependency of the three areas in wellbeing, the mind seems to have a profound effect on the overall health. As more scientific research on the brain and its cognitive functions are being carried out in recent decades, the notion of “what you think you become” has been widely accepted. The power of the mind is yet to be fully uncovered and should not be underestimated. One thing for sure is that by tapping into our brain plasticity, we could keep on changing and improving our human intelligence without limits.

What we think we become is not merely a slogan but a proactive approach which could be put into practice by anyone, at any time and anywhere. For example, the way our bodies react when we feel nervous or excited is identical. Our hearts beat faster, blood pressure increases, and breathing becomes rapid. If we could switch our thinking from nervousness to excitement at that moment, we would feel empowered to handle the situation. This subtle change in mindset alone has a remarkable impact on our psychological wellbeing.

A positive mindset is fundamental for a good life because our thoughts dictate our behaviours; repeated behaviours become habits; habits influence our character; and our personality determines how we face challenges which eventually shapes our destiny. Our thinking pattern is hard-wired to good and bad experiences. It’s important to reflect regularly so that we could retrain the brain to think in an optimistic way.

Besides positive thinking, meditation is another effective practice for mental and emotional health which promotes the overall wellbeing. When meditation is combined with professional coaching, uplifting the mind-body-spirit connection becomes easier. Come talk to us at HIbodhi only if you want the best for yourself.
